Ketamine/Special K Addiction Recovery Treatments

Ketamine, also known as Special K, is a tranquilizer (anaesthetic) designed solely to be used in a hospital setting, but is more commonly used in veterinary medicine. Ketamine is a “club drug,” an hallucinogen, and a dissociative drug similar to PCP and nitrous oxide (laughing gas). When abused for recreational purposes, ketamine is commonly snorted in powder form, or injected in liquid form. In recent years the drug has become popular in the club scene where teens and young adults frequently use it.

Ketamine abuse does not typically lead to the traditional type of physical addiction symptoms that result from the abuse of drugs such as alcohol and heroin. But because ketamine impairs a user’s cognitive abilities to such an intense degree, it can lead to a desire for frequent long-term use, and that means that ending one’s ketamine addiction may not be as simple as just deciding to quit.

The experienced, sympathetic staff members at Trafalgar Residence know that the decision to stop using ketamine is a tough one and users may experience cognitive, and psychological symptoms that make it difficult for them to cease their use of the drug. We offer residential treatment options that focus on individual therapy, group therapy, 12-step program support, CBT, DBT, and humanistic treatment options to make your specific journey to recovery a safe and effective one.
