MDMA/Ecstasy Addiction Recovery Treatment

MDMA or ecstasy users may encounter serious addiction issues similar to those experienced by methamphetamine and cocaine users. In addition to its mentally rewarding effects, MDMA’s psychological effects can include confusion, depression, sleep problems, anxiety, and paranoia, both short-term and long-term, after taking the drug. Physical effects can include muscle tension, involuntary teeth clenching and grinding, intense nausea, blurred vision, faintness, and chills or cold sweats.

Symptoms such as increases in heart rate and blood pressure have led to reports of MDMA-related fatalities at music festivals and raves with more frequency in recent years. The stimulant effects of the drug, which enable the user to dance for extended periods, combined with the hot, crowded conditions usually found at concerts, can lead to dehydration, hyperthermia, and heart or kidney failure. MDMA use damages neurons associated with brain serotonin both during and after use. Long-term side effects also include memory loss and brain damage.

Despite being a more difficult drug to treat for addiction, much like methamphetamine, research shows the most effective treatment for MDMA addiction and abuse is cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). Drug abuse recovery support groups may also be effective in supporting and reaching long-term, drug-free recovery goals. There are currently no pharmacological treatments for dependence on MDMA, but we at Trafalgar Residence use the cutting edge of therapeutic treatment options to offer you the psychological and addiction recovery support you need to live a clean lifestyle.
